April 20. After Dylan went to school, we went to Cambria's to help her hang some shelves. Then we went to look at some model homes, then went shopping, then picked up some lunch. We then went to Blake's school to eat lunch with him. Ms. Brewer came up to me at lunch and told me she was so sad that she missed the baptism. She said they talked about it on Monday and he was soooo happy. She has young kids and is divorced so I wasn't sure if she was going to be able to make it. She did put his invitation up in the classroom. I think it was sweet that she made it a big thing in the classroom and talked to him about it in front of the whole class. I like that we live in an area that can still talk about those things in the school. She knew it was important to him. Have I mentioned before that I love her as a teacher for Blake? Sad the school year is almost over. He has made so much progress this year.
Earlier in the week Dylan helped Grandpa put my bike together and then the boys helped Grandpa put Aaron's bike together.
That night was Pinewood Derby. Blake was sad that Aaron was out of town and Aaron was sad that he was out of town because they worked on it a lot together. I might have been a little worried because I had to help run the show and Aaron wouldn't be there to help Blake, but thankfully Grandpa was there to help with the car and well, ended up helping to also start off the cars and Grandma took pictures and helped with Dylan. Thanks guys!
Blake was the first one to race his first race. Then Aaron called and had the idea of video chatting so he could see Blake race, so Aaron (and his parents) got to see Blake's race #2 and #3. He won all of his races.
We had 3 wards. Mike was from our ward and he had the track. He happens to be the wife of our cubmaster so it wasn't hard to convince him to help us. We raced each car 3 times, one time in each lane. Fastest average time won. We found out later the top 3 finishers cheated. One purchased the car and the other 2 used previous year' winning cars..these were against our rules. We wanted the boys to build a car..even if a parent helped them.
Here are some of the cars. We had 30 cars race and then at the end we did siblings races.
I really liked this car...so clever.
As leaders we wanted to have a leader car that was guaranteed to be the slowest car so that no boy had the slowest car. We gave the assignment to Mike and he was awesome. He played it up. Blake told me later that Mike needed help next year making a car for leaders.
Every boy won some award for their car. This was something I was in charge of. Harder then it sounds. They had so much fun. It was so loud in their, but fun.
Found out later, Blake got 3rd in our ward. 1st for a wolf. Not bad for his first time.
Aren't these treats awesome?! Thank you pinterest.
