Trip to Houston Day 4

Wednesday we went to the Space Center in Houston--aka NASA. I asked several friends who have been to see if we should go. I figured since we were going to be there, we might as well go. Blake and I really enjoyed it. Dylan liked it, but I think he would like it better in a couple of years.

We went on a tram tour and it took us to mission control and this rocket park where it had Saturn V, which is what they used to build the Apollo rockets after. Our guide was a retired NASA rocket scientist. His job was to figure out the best fuel for the Apollo missions. It was very interesting. This brown part is what had the 3 astronauts..all the others had fuel and were released once their fuel was used up.

They had the space shuttle Independence here, on top of a 747. It was fun to see, but especially fun to see because years ago, we were at Disneyland when Endeavor made it's last flight through SoCal. Then a couple of years after that, we went to the science museum in L.A. and saw the Endeavor there.

This is the actual capsule from Apollo 17.

We touched a moon rock.

It is black, shinny, and smooth.

We lifted weights on different planets.

Then we touched a rock from Mars. It was brown, rough and dull.

We watched a couple of presentations and movies. I think astronauuts are pretty amazing. I don't ever want to be one, but think it is pretty amazing what they do. There was a story about an Italian  in the Space Station in 2013 who went out on a mission to fix something and almost drowned. The story is much longer, but I won't ruin it. The other cool thing is how when you are in space, your nationality and your political views, etc doesn't matter. Totally different perspective in space.

After NASA, we went back to the hotel. We went to dinner with Aaron and had some BBQ.
