Dessert with Dad

Last Tuesday it rained a lot (2 inches) all day. It was no fun. But that night we had desserts with dad at Dylan's preschool. Aaron was in Florida, so I asked his teachers if Blake and I could come instead and she loved the idea. Dylan was super excited to show Blake his school.

The kids had to decorate a star (the whole theme was their dad is a star) and the dads were supposed to pick them out.

The room had different stations to show all the things they have been working on for dad. The last one was a chair for them and dad along with cookies and milk. They had a really cute frame with a picture of each kid with a white shirt and tie.

Dylan knows his dad..might be slightly off on his height and weight, but I think Aaron liked to hear his "age". Dylan saved a cookie and all his projects for Aaron for when he got back from his trip. Aaron was sad to miss the fun night, but Blake and I sure had fun.

Boys

The boys wanted me to take some pictures of this last Monday.

Really, they wanted to take silly pictures.

Part of their responsibilities is to take the trash cans out and then bring them back in. Monday night we bring them back in so Mr. Dylan wanted another picture.

Every night we read scriptures together. Blake and Dylan have their own copy to follow or read along with. It is fun now because Blake reads by himself now. Anyway, Dylan said, "Um, I am going to read the scriptures on my phone." As much as I love that we have the scriptures on our phones now, I think it is super important for the kids to read actual books also and to know how to turn to find certain books and chapters. No, Dylan doesn't have a phone...this is one of Aaron's old phones, but I don't remember saying that phrase about reading the scriptures on my phone when I was a kid.

Monopoly

Blake decided to make his own version of Monopoly. Aaron left for Florida last Sunday, so we played for a long time after church.

Dylan

Here are some random pictures of Dylan recently. We have been jumping on the trampoline a lot lately. Dylan's hair just love the static electricity.

Every Friday we have a play group with folks from church. We rotate who is in charge. One week I took one picture. Beckett and Dylan are best friends so they pretty much just play with one another the whole time. The girls don't really like to do what the boys are doing, which is why there are no girls in the picture.

Dylan loves to play outside so we spend a lot of time outside.

Last night Dylan had his first soccer practice with his new soccer team. This time it is all boys. There are 6 of them on the team. We found out that one boy, Truit (who names these kids?) not only goes to Dylan's same preschool, but shares the classroom with Dylan. Dylan goes Monday and Wednesday and Truit goes Tuesday and Thursday. They share one teacher, Ms. Christy (she is the main teacher and then has an assistant teacher for M/W and the T/Th class...Dylan has Ms. Shannon and Truit has Ms.Emma on T/Th, who sometimes subs for Ms. Shannon so we know her too) This team seems pretty great and the coach is great with the kids. Dylan really likes the coach and the kids. It was hilarious though because it was super windy at practice, well, all day really. You would put the ball down to kick it and it would blow away. Sometimes this Texas wind can be very strong.

Heard Museum

A couple weekends ago we had a really nice day, so we went to the Heard Museum. The rest of area also had the same idea...it was packed. Our plants and grass here go dormant in the winter. I think it is so ugly and depressing, but on our hike we found this. It might be hard  to tell, but there is a section of red and a section of blue grass. It was really cool in person.

The dinosaurs were going to be leaving the museum soon (they leave before it gets too hot) so we checked them out again.

It had been so cold so I wasn't sure what animals we would see. We saw plenty of turtles. Also happy  to report that we did not see any copperheads.

No School

Monday was a day off of school. It was a beautiful day. I wanted to take the kids to the zoo because it was $5 to get in, but they wanted to go to the Cowboy park. It was a whole lot closer, so I wasn't going to fight them. We were there for about an hour when everyone else had the same idea as us and showed up. We stayed for another hour and then went home. The boys played in the backyard for a long time.

I forgot to mention, but last Tuesday our water heater broke. The water heaters are in our garage. I went out there in the morning before school to get out some chicken from the freezer and found water on the ground. So many homes around here have their water heaters on the 2nd floor or even the attic, which is a huge pain. But it is all fixed...we had to get new ones. But we were lucky to have discovered it right away.

Happy Valentine's Day

Sundays are crazy because I have ward council at 7:30 and then we get home from church around 12:20, so we didn't really do much for Valentine's Day until after church. Church was particularly crazy too because so many people were sick and I had so many people text me last minute that they couldn't make it. I had one of our Seniors in high school be our chorister in primary. She was great.

Anyway, the boys got a little candy and a small toy. Aaron got me some shoes and a dress. I got Aaron a waterproof speaker.

Hope everyone had a Happy Valentine's Day.

Donuts

Last Saturday, the boys really wanted to make donuts for breakfast. Wish granted. Can you tell by their faces that they had chocolate frosting? We also gave them some much needed haircuts and we played outside all day. We have had several days now of really nice weather. It cools down to the 40s, but then the high is in the upper 60s or low 70s. We have been outside so much lately. I love it. It has brought a lot of bugs already though which is a huge bummer. Mosquitos in February?! Yep.

Blake's Valentine'sDay Party

Last Friday Blake had his school party, so Dylan and I went. Dylan was kind of bored, so I didn't get many pictures again.

One of the games they played was pin the heart on the tree. They each wrote a note to their teacher and then had to get blind folded and turn around 3 times and then pin the heart on the tree. I didn't get Blake doing it, but this is Rhett--his classmate and soccer buddy. This reminds me, Blake had his first soccer practice of the season Thursday night. The entire team is back..plus one, which is Blake's friend Colton. So Colton is a friend from church and his mom and I are good friends. Colton is in Kindergarten at their school so should be playing with that grade. Well, I talked to the coaches and our soccer association allowed it--it isn't unheard of for kids to play up, but it was interesting that they allowed another kid to be put on the team because it was full.

We got home and the boys found another surprise in the mail. My folks sent them a Valentine's day card. So exciting.

They then checked out all their goodies. Public schools don't allow them to exchange candy (thank you Michelle Obama....it is pretty terrible to get candy at school...oh well). BUT Dylan goes to a private preschool (because they almost all are) and he got lots of treats, which he shared with his brother.

Dylan's Class Party

Last week Dylan had his Valentine's day party at preschool so I went and managed to get one picture. They got to frost and then decorate their cookie. He was given a ton of sprinkles so he ate most of those and saved his cookie for later. They did exchange valentine's so he checked them out when he got home. He was so excited.

My Grandma sent the boys Valentine's Day cards. They just love getting things in the mail.

Blake read his card all by himself and then read Dylan's for him...even though he might have been a little distracted.
