Damaging Storm

Sunday's forecast called for a damaging storm. We kind of laughed because it was a really nice day. I had a meeting at 6 and when I came out a little after 7 there was lightning and a lot of it, but it was super quiet. (Never a good combination).

About 8:15 it starts raining and shortly after it starts to hail. Golf size hail. It didn't last too long, but during that time the tornado sirens went off. We of course don't wake up our kids because that's how we are....we will get them if we need to. I was nervous to wake up and see the damage from this damaging storm...they were right this time. Good job weather folks.

I had friends texting. Everyone was safe. Mostly it was car damage--dents and plenty of them. It is a good day to be a roofer in North Texas. Dylan had to come with me today to get my tire fixed. Unrelated to the storm, I got a nail in my tire. Everyone was busy taking care of auto claims from dents that no one was in the tire place....they were fast today. BUT another damaging storm is predicted for Wednesday. They better be wrong.

Soccer Games

Blake's game was at 9am and then Dylan's was at 2pm...terrible. Blake's game was chilly considering it was so nice all week. Blake played well. The team they played were totally amazing though.

Dylan did well. He did really great on defense. They don't have goalies, but he blocked one of their goals.

After the game, the boys went over to a friend's house. Blake's teammate Kaeler, whose dad is the coach, invited him over to play. He has a younger brother Dylan's age, so his mom invited Dylan over too. They had fun and Aaron and I finished the yard work while they were gone.

Pump It Up Playdate

Our plans for our Friday playdate were to go to an indoor trampoline place that has toddler time--2 hours for $5. We all got there and they were closed for a movie filming. What?! We had some very sad kiddos, so we went to Pump It Up, which was about 2 minutes away. The kids were happy. It was raining that day so all outdoors activities were out.

Dylan played almost the whole time with Beckett and Grady. Grady is Caleb's brother. Caleb is Blake's church buddy. Those boys played so hard and had so much fun. Then we came home and my VT came over.

We picked Blake up from school and took him to his eye doctor appointment. His eyes are doing fine. I'm waiting another year to take Dylan because his pediatrician did a vision test and didn't notice anything of concern and we haven't noticed any vision trouble for him.

Jelly Beans

Wednesday--Blake's first den meeting. They were short handed, so I stuck around and helped. It was fun and he had a lot of fun. But then a couple days later I met with our primary president and we are splitting from the other ward after our pinewood derby. I am so excited about this.

Anyway, one of the den leaders made a thing for Blake to keep his book and other stuff in. So awesome. Then we headed straight over to his soccer practice. Dylan and I played at the park and talked tour neighbors while Blake practiced.

Thursday--I went to my eye exam. Well, my lasik surgery is wearing off. I need (well, it was suggested...don't legally need them yet) glasses while driving in unfamiliar areas or at night.

After the eye doctor, I went to Costco. I got some jelly bellies and they were in heaven when they came home from school. They spent more time trying to figure out which kind was which then actually eating them.

The day before at school, Dylan had a Bible Times Marketplace where they did stuff that they did in Biblical times and ate things like they ate...kind of. So they had cheese, olives, bread and fish sticks. I found out that Dylan loves fish sticks, so I got some for him and Blake...they both love them. Poor Aaron can't eat them though.

Yard Work

I was busy last week doing yard work. Our poor oleander had a rough time through winter, so I chopped most of it down, then put anti fungus stuff, compost, fertilizer spikes and then mulch in that area. I did that while the AC guy was here servicing the AC units.

Aaron left early that morning for Boston. We enjoyed 80 degree weather all week, while he was freezing in Boston...in the 20s. We win.

Trip to Store

Last Monday, Dylan and I went to the library and then needed to stop at the grocery store. They have toys there so we played for a little bit.

That night we went to Dylan's soccer practice and then played at the park afterwards.

Soccer Games

Saturday was soccer games. Blake's game was at 10:15 and it was a little chilly. He did great.

During the game I learned that Coach Michelle (from last season) had a brain tumor and just got back the day before from being in Houston for 3 weeks for her surgery. I talked with her later that day and she has a clean bill of health now. It was crazy though. She had milk but is lactose intolerant, which she knows....but it made her very sick, so she called her husband to come home from work. By the time he got there (he works super close), she was having a seizure. Took her to the hospital and found the tumor. The tumor caused the seizure. I guess it was a good thing she decided to have milk, which caused her to get sick and call her husband who came home...otherwise...yicks. Tumor was the size of a golf ball. She can't drive for 3 months. One of the boys' dads on Dylan's current team died last February of brain cancer.

We went home and had lunch and did more yard work. It was then hot for Dylan's game.

We decided that spring was now here and we wouldn't get anymore cold days. The previous Monday night we had a freeze advisory. We have really weird, inconsistent weather.

Anyway, Dylan did great and so did his team. The other team was really great too.

Coach Ryan (gray shirt) and Coach Jay (blue shirt) are in the background. They are great coaches. We had practice last night and Dylan did great. Coach Ryan was saying how much Dylan has improved. Having a great coach makes a huge difference.

Pack Meeting

The kids went back to school the following week and I spent my time getting scout stuff taken care of and did lots and lots of yard work.

Thursday night Blake had his first pack meeting. He participated in the skit and did great. He is friends with all the wolves anyway, so he was excited to be there. He has been working hard and already earned his bobcat, but figured we would wait until next month's pack meeting, which is the pinewood derby and Grandma and Grandpa will be out here. They are coming for his baptism, but pinewood derby is a few days later and they will still be here.

Friday morning we had our playdate and went to the airplane park. We had a great turnout. That night we had our corned beef for St. Patrick's Day. We all really like it.

Spring Break Hike

Aaron has been working so much, so he took Friday off. We went to the park that our ward always does the fathers/sons campout and went on a hike/bike ride/picnic.

We went home and watched a movie. It was fun to see Aaron again.

Spring Break Perot Museum

On Thursday of Spring Break we went to the Perot Museum. It wouldn't have been crowded if several schools didn't take their field trip their that day. They tried to stagger Texas spring break this year, which was nice, but Perot was dumb to schedule field trips during anyone's spring break.

We had a lot of fun anyway.

The kids wanted to hang out in the children's section. Maybe because the schools couldn't go in there.

We met Aaron for lunch, since his office is pretty close.

On our way home, we stopped at the scout office and registered Blake for Cub Scouts. He is official now. He has another month until his birthday, but I wanted to get him registered in time to register him for Twilight Camp. His den leader and I are friends and she is totally fine with him coming a month early and since I take care of all the paperwork, it was easy to get it taken care of. He is so excited to be in cub scouts.

We also stopped at the library.

Park

Wednesday morning we went to the store to look at some more bikes. Then we went to a craft store to get somethings for Blake's pinewood derby car. We ran some other errands. We then had lunch, did some yard work, and then went to the park at Blake's school to play. We saw his friend Aiden and then saw another Aiden friend on our way home. He had gone to the Mav's game the night before at saw Dirk's 30,000th point.

Heard Museum

Tuesday we took our friend, Caleb (same kid from soccer game) with us to the Heard. He didn't want to go where his family was going that day and we didn't either, so he joined us for some walks. He is 8...crazy that Dylan is taller than him huh?

We got a slurpee afterwards and then Caleb came back to our house to play until his mom picked him up. Then we went to look at bikes for Blake. This is what he wants for his birthday.

Cowboy Park

Day one of Spring Break we met our friends at the cowboy park. It was 80 degrees this day...beautiful. Last years spring break was terrible weather...rained every day.

I didn't get a picture of our friends. We got there early because we had some energy. It was fun seeing Brexton, Maci, Brian and mom, Megan again. They live in the same city, but different school district and different stake so we don't connect as much as we used to.

After the park, we went to Costco to pick up Blake's baptism invitations. We ran into our friend the Halls and our friend John, who is married to Aaron's former co-worker. They should be at the baptism.

No soccer practice this week and no soccer games=much more time to play and have fun.

Desserts with Dad

Here are some things from desserts with dad night. It might be hard to read, but Aaron is apparently 77 years old and his job is to go to work.

I thought this was a cute idea. So easy. So glad there are creative people out there.

Soccer Games

Saturday, March 4: Soccer games, after a Home Depot project and getting some mulch. It was cold. Blake played his friend, Caleb's team. His parents sat with us during the game.

Dylan's game was right after Blake's game. Dylan's team is pretty good. They haven't lost a game yet.

Living Museum JFK

3/3-Friday before spring break was the 2nd grade class living museum. All the 2nd graders picked from a list a historical person. They researched this person and then wrote a speech about this person...they did all this work at school, so this is their first research project. They then edited their speech with help from their teacher, then they typed it up at school. Then at home they had to practice and try to memorize their speech. They also needed to bring a prop (poster board or something else) and dress in character.

The morning of the event, Dylan and I played with some friends at the park next to the school. Then we went over to the school and help set up all the props. The kids needed help getting into their outfits, but Blake didn't since this is what he wears to church and can do that by himself.

Then from 12:30-2:30 parents and the other grades (at specified times) came through the museum. They would press a button and the characters would come to life and give their speech. It was cute, but a terrible thing to do the day before spring break started.

Blake picked JFK.

Here is his class.

His buddy Kenny.

His friend from church, Claire...aka Amelia Earhart.

I heard a lot of the speeches, but took very few pictures. The kids did such a good job. Aaron was able to come for a little bit and then take Dylan home.

Other things this week:
-the boys decided they were done with baths and wanted to start taking showers.
-went to the cannery and stocked up
-Had lunch with friend
-Took Blake and friends to soccer practice, dropped friends off then took Blake straight to his open house at school. Teacher said good things. He got another 100% on math district assessment test. He rocks in math.
-Same night Aaron took Dylan to his preschool for desserts with dad. They had fun.
