Austin Day 5

Saturday morning I did my 10 mile run. I was glad that we weren't at the lake, but there were still so many hills...just not as steep. There was rain in the forecast, but it ended up not raining until later in the day so it worked out. There was also cloud coverage so it kept it cooler for our kayak adventure. We went kayaking on Lady Bird lake for almost 4 hours. Let me tell you, that is rough on the body. We got out half way through to stretch.

If you are ever in Austin and want to run, there is a 10 mile run around the lake. It is very popular. They say 15,000 runners go on the trail every day.

After the kayak adventure we went to go get some BBQ at a local place that we heard was good, but when we got there it was all sold out. So we went to the state Capital. It was under construction, but still was fun to see. It is huge and because we have Lady Liberty on the top...it is taller than our nation's capital. That's Texas for you--everything is bigger in Texas.

We took the tour. This is the rotunda, which has pictures of all former governors. There were some pretty important Texas governors.

This is the state senate room. The history is pretty amazing. It is 100 something years old and these desks are original. The detail in the design is so cool. They took pride in this building.

Going in the state capital it made me feel a little proud knowing some important stuff happens there and Texas still has some great values. Hopefully Texas will continue to be that way.

Right behind the capital you can see the stadium. We heard about the design for the Austin area and the areas the founders wanted to focus on...education being one of them...hence UT.

Sunday we drove home in a crazy storm, but we made it. The storm brought cooler weather, which we are still enjoying.

Day 4

Friday morning we packed up our stuff and drove to go zip lining. There was 1 other couple, who were celebrating their 5 year anniversary.

Our very last zip ended at a dead end, so we had to repel down.

Our guides were Mia and Adam. It was so much fun. It isn't scary at all.

We then drove back into Austin. On our way we went to the 360 Bridge.

You can hike up and get a 360 view of Austin.

The cliff on the left is what you hike.

Then we went to Mt. Bonnell, which is the highest point in Austin.

The Austin skyline is behind Aaron.

That is Lady Bird Lake down below. FYI--it is the Colorado River, but it goes into Lake Travis and also Lade Bird Lake...they have to rename it apparently and call them lakes even though it is a river....not sure how that happens.

We then checked into our hotel in Austin. This hotel was a Marriott. Because Aaron travels so much he had earned a free night, so we used that one night and then used points another night.
