Hawaiian Shirts

My parents came for a visit on Saturday.  We picked them up from the airport with the boys wearing Hawaiian shirts....just like what Grandpa always wears. Aren't they a cute bunch? Saturday night when I was putting Blake to bed, he told me he was sad. I asked him why, so he responded with, "I don't want Grandma and Grandpa to be gone when I wake up." I told him that they are going to be here for a whole week. He was super happy about this. The next morning, the boys waited outside Grandma and Grandpa's bedroom for about 30 minutes for them to wake up...then they couldn't take it anymore and opened their door.

Dentist

The boys got their teeth cleaned today. At his last cleaning, Blake was super nervous..maybe because it was a new dentist for him? However, this time he did great. He wanted to go first. At the end, the dentist pulled out his new toothbrush and it was blue. Blake whispered to me, "How did he know blue is my favorite color?" Blake was pretty happy after that, and then even happier to get to pick out a toy at the dentist office.  Then it was Dylan's turn...his first time that he was a patient at the dentist. He climbed in the chair and had no problems with the dentist brushing his teeth and checking them out. He was also pretty excited to get a  toy and a new toothbrush.  We got home and they immediately dumped out their goody bag from the dentist. Who knew a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss and a toy could be so exciting. I was happy that they both did well and that there were no cavities.

At bedtime I usually ask Blake if he had a good day and what his favorite part was.Tonight I thought it would be the fact that he played with his friends or jumping on the trampoline, but no, he responded, "Getting a blue toothbrush." Note to self...only buy blue toothbrushes for Blake (at least for now).

Bike Ride

The weather has been great lately, so we went on a bike ride the other day.

Teeth and Growing Up

Dylan had some accomplishments this past week. He made it all the way across the balance beam by himself. He was proud of himself.

Friday night was the boys campout (well, that is what Blake calls it). Dylan could only go if he went in the potty by himself for the whole day...failed. Really, Aaron didn't want to take him because well, we all know how little sleep everyone gets at campouts and Dylan just wouldn't be pleasant the next day. So, we had a campfire in our backyard for dinner before Aaron and Blake left. We sure do love our firepit in our backyard, but we usually only make s'mores, so it was nice to do something else. We learned that Dylan loves hot dogs. He had 2...and pounded them. I guess we have had our Costco $1.50 hot dog deals enough that I should have known that this kid loves hot dogs.

Aaron and Blake went to the campout and Dylan asked about Blake about every 10 minutes. Aaron did get pictures at the campout so he will have to post them sometime. It ended up being a great thing that Dylan didn't go on the campout because he woke up way too early. He has been grouchy lately, so I decided to take a look in his mouth and sure enough 2 of his 2 year old molars had popped up. It was also nice that he didn't go on the campout because he was a great helper cleaning windows Saturday morning.

Sand and Water = Happy Boys!

There is a shopping center near our house that I love because there are a ton of stores so you can knock out a bunch of errands in the same area. Well, I just found out that I like it even more.  We went with our friends to the back where they have a beach area with beach volleyball courts and a play area with sand for kids. There isn't a lot of sand in where we live, so the kids were super excited to use their sand toys again.

Then we had to check out the splash pad, except they call this a fountain. In the evening, there is a show with lights and music that is choreographed with the water. Blake especially loved it...so much it was hard  to get a picture of him. Dylan wasn't feeling well, so he just stayed by me (it was really weird for him to do that).

Design flaw with this...one side of the street is the fountain, then you have to cross the street to get to the beach part. Not a great idea with little kids. They are constantly wanting to go between the 2 areas. I guess it keeps the sand out of the fountain areas better, but it makes me be on my toes more then I want to be.

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms in the world. Who likes their ties? My mom got them for the boys. We may have a couple people in our ward who are Ute fans, so we might have shown the ties to them.

We woke up and the boys made some muffins for breakfast, then we opened some presents. We then went to church. Blake didn't get up to sing...maybe next year....or maybe in 5 years. Aaron made us dinner...with the help of the boys, and they made a surprise....ice cream. (they did a great job keeping it a secret)

Here is a story. We were eating some food and Dylan asks, "What's that sound?" I respond with, "it's a lawn mower" because that is the only abnormal sound that I can hear so I am assuming that is what he is asking about. Clearly, that wasn't what he was asking about because he asks again,  "What's that sound?" Aaron chimes in and says, "um, the clock. Is that you are asking about?" Dylan then says, "No. It's my belly...it's rumbling." Then he laughs.

Austin with Angie

Sunday morning, we went to church near our hotel and learned that we liked our own ward even more then we originally thought. Then we headed home. We drove through Austin and stopped at our friend, Angie's house. I worked with Angie in CA until she moved away in 2010. It was fun to see her again. Then we got back in the car and drove home. Fun weekend trip.

The Alamo and The Riverwalk

Saturday morning, we went downtown to The Alamo.

No pictures are allowed inside the shrine.

This is a picture of the room that the women and children were in to stay safe. There were a lot of drawings on the walls that they are trying to restore from inside this room. They claim they are from the women, but I have to imagine that the kids were drawing on the walls too. You think a kid wouldn't draw on the wall after seeing their mom do it? Who has kids who haven't wanted to paint a wall while you are painting? Anyway, they have some fun artifacts to look at.

This is the blurry map of what The Alamo included.

I know the cactus hurts, but does this plant? Let me find out...

After The Alamo, we went to The Riverwalk. It is really interesting. Both The Alamo and Riverwalk are cool to see, but doubt we will ever go back.

We ended up taking a boat tour. Dylan got a little restless, so didn't get many pictures, but we learned a lot about the area. San Antonio has a big German influence. Who knew? It can be seen in some architecture and in a lot of the names of cities nearby.

After downtown, we came back to the hotel and swam. Then the boys caught their second wind right after dinner, so we went to a local park. It was 100 degrees.  Good thing the weather was nice while we were downtown.

SeaWorld San Antonio

We decided to take advantage of being somewhat close to SeaWorld and get away for a quick weekend trip to San Antonio.

We started with the kid rides.

And then we watched the Elmo show...Blake is too old for it now, but Dylan liked it.

They both liked the Sea Lion show.

Of course they loved the whale show. I loved that the whole arena was on the shade. It was actually a perfect day.

The boys liked the alligators.

They also liked seeing the penguins...even if they were super smelly.

They did NOT like that there was a huge snake that you could pet. They opted to not pet the snake.

Their favorite thing was probably the dolphin show, but I didn't get any pictures.

Blake and Dylan still had lots of energy, so we let them run around at the park inside SeaWorld.
