In my mouth, 4 fall down and Muy Bien

We were having dinner yesterday, chili and corn bread.  Dylan was needing a lot of hands on attention yesterday to get his food down--I know, not like Dylan, but lately it has been more and more of an occurrence.  Michelle and I were deep in conversation when Dylan starts interrupting us......
"Mommy? Hey, Mommy."   We both turned to look at him.
He points to Michelle's plate at her corn bread sitting there and says, "Mommy, I want little bit of that in my mouth."  And then smiles real big.  Apparently, it doesn't matter who's plate what is on.  If Dylan wants a little bit of "that" in his mouth, he gets it.
As he is eating it, he looks over at us both.  With corn bread stuffed in his mouth he says, "Thank".  It was classic.

During this same Sunday dinner, we were engaging the boys as to what they learned at Church that day. Blake mentioned he had two "different teachers" today---substitutes.  Dylan went on a walk in nursery around the church and looked at pictures of Jesus for a bit.  There is a picture of Jesus on the shore with boats in the background--Jesus is calling Simon Peter to come follow him.  So, I asked Dylan about that picture.  "Did you see a picture with Jesus by the water, the one with boats?"
"Yes, " he says.
"How many boats were in the picture?"
"Hmmm, 1, 2, 3, 5"
I looked puzzled and asked him, "1, 2, 3, 5, what happened to 4"
He looks up at me and responds, "He fall down."

As those with kids know quite well, kids go through stages of TV programs and movies.  They'll watch one over and over and over again for a few weeks or a month and then move onto the next show or movie.  The process repeats itself.  Right now, Dylan is on a show called, Go, Diego, Go.  A little kid runs around saving animals with the help of other animals.  He does all this while speaking English but throws in Spanish words now and again.  Dylan calls him,"Ego"  I guess the "Di" part of the kid's name is silent.  :)
So, last night, we were getting the boys ready for bed, baths, pj's, brushing teeth, etc..  I turned to Michelle after talking about something and said, "Muy bien."
Dylan runs into the room from the bathroom with toothbrush in hand and says "Ego, say 'Muy ben'."
It was pretty funny.  Apparently, our kid is bilingual now, even from the bathroom.  So, thanks, Ego for your help.

Well let's it for me this time.  Stay tuned to future installments.

The Weekend

I was looking at our weather forecast and saw Friday and Saturday were going to be great days...in the 70s, and then Sunday and Monday were going to be cold. So, Friday afternoon, we took off for the museum to enjoy the weather and get some energy out.

I was taking a picture of the midgets in the chair (pictured above) and a lady asked us if I wanted a picture of the 3 of us.

After we went to the museum, we stopped at our favorite park and ran into some friends who moved across town. It was fun to see them.

Friday night, we were going on our evening walk. We try to do this every night as long as Aaron gets home in time and it isn't too cold. Well, there was a family down our street who had moved in that day and they were outside while we walked past their house on our walk. We stopped to meet them. They are nice and they have a 4 year old girl, Ashley, and 3 year old boy, Carter. His birthday is Oct. 27. So he is almost exactly 1 year older then Dylan. I was excited that we have more young kids in our neighborhood.

Saturday, we went to Home Depot for project time and made these Trojan Horse Banks. It is a character off an upcoming movie.

After Home Depot, we went to Costco, came home to do some yard work while the kids played outside since it was 75 degrees and we could do yard work. Then the kids wanted to go to the park down the street, so we went and on our way back, our new friends were outside. The dad was out entertaining Ashley while the mom was unpacking. So I asked if she could play at our house so both mom and dad could get stuff done. Those with little kids know how little you can get done with kids.Yeah, Aaron and I recently painted our bedroom...I get it.  How much faster could we have gotten it done without kids?  Her brother was sick so he stayed home and watched tv and wasn't in their way anyway. We had fun and wow, Ashley is so mellow. She is going to start kinder next year too at the same school as us.

Then we dropped off Ashley and found a fun package from Grandma and Grandpa. The kids each got a Hawaiian shirt to match Grandpa, some candy (Dylan's favorite part), and some pictures and book from my grandma's 90th birthday party!

Sunday, we woke up and it was cold. Then while at church, we could hear the ice coming down. So glad we bought some ice scrappers a couple months ago. You wouldn't think you need that in Texas. Okay, I didn't think the winters were this much "fun". Monday--everything is cancelled...no school, had to reschedule Dylan's doctor appointment, Aaron has to work from home, play date with other friends cancelled because ALL the kids are home from school. Yes, when we get ice, we close things down. This storm was nothing like our storm in December, but I still like that they close things down when the roads are too icy. Luckily we only have a couple days of freezing, then we are back to our normal temps. I sure hope spring here lasts a really long time.

Sad day at church though because Blake's primary teacher was released and put in as the RS president. Blake loved his teacher and she was perfect for him.

Cooking with Mom

Dylan was helping me make some muffins. I went to grab something out of the pantry, came back and found Dylan on the phone while mixing the muffin batter. Does he cook with me too often?

Fun Mail

The boys got some fun mail this week. They each got a Valentine's Day card from Grandma and Grandpa with $1. Dylan's reaction...yippy! So, it was hard to get a picture because he was jumping around.

Blake was excited. We read the card, then he gave me  the card and took the money.

Blake's friend from CA sent this unexpected note.  I think it is such a cute message. If you don't understand kindergarten language, "Come back to California. I miss you. I love you. From, Tyler."

Happy Valentine's Day

Blake's class exchanged Valentine's Day cards. This was my favorite. Blake tasted the twinkie, didn't like it, so gave it to Dylan, who also didn't like it. So, they don't like Twinkies. But honestly, I love creative people because this was a brilliant idea.

Happy Valentine's Day!!

Heard Museum

We are learning that when it is nice outside, we need to get outside and take advantage of it. So the end of January, we headed to the museum because it was nice weather and it was our last chance to see the dinosaurs before they took them down.

Blake's favorite dinosaur, the T-Rex.

They also love the little play houses.

They love to play restaurant.

Dylan is full of funny faces.

Inside the museum, they have an area where you can dig for fossils.

Their collection of all their "treasures" as they called them. Yes, Dylan still squats. This kid is going to have either bad knees or killer quads.

Thanks dinos, we will see you in October when you come back.

Valenine's Cookies

As mentioned, Blake wanted to make some cookies for some neighbors for Valentine's Day. Our neighbors loved them and we liked making them and then sampling them before delivering them. We ended up spending about an hour at one neighbors house who has a 5 year old girl and 4 year boy. They are the only young kids in our neighborhood except our boys and they are right around the corner. The kids get along great.

Yesterday while I was dropping off Blake at preschool, I get a call from the dad of the 2 kids who says he has a ton of extra fruit and asked if he could bring it over. Um....yes please!

Dylan immediately grabbed the strawberries and went to town. The funny thing was I was going to Sprout's (fantastic place to buy produce) after taking Blake to preschool, so that trip was cancelled because we scored some free yummy produce.

Tasty batter, Not cool, Let's go home, Cheeky, Shooting the Pilot

Let's start off by sharing some of Dylan's fun sayings as of late then we'll move onto to Blake's.

Michelle and I were in the kitchen making muffins for dinner.  Dylan was sitting on the table "helping" us.  After mixing the batter, Dylan grabs the spatula that we'd used to scrap the batter into the muffin pan.  He then proceeds to lick the spatula while his eyes are closed.  He stops after his first lick and looks at Michelle and I and says, "hmmm. That tasteeeey".    Around our house, we've now co-opted his version of the pronunciation of tasty.

Blake and Dylan will have moments of greatness where they play and play without any issues or problems.  However, that only lasts for so long and then we have to step in and keep the peace.  The other day was one of those days.  The boys were playing downstairs while Michelle and I were in the kitchen.  Fits of giggles were coming from the other room as we cooked and cleaned.  Blake then did something that Dylan as not a fan of and Dylan turns to Blake and calmly states "Not.... cool ....Blakey Boy".

Blake had a great idea of making some valentine's cookies and taking them to our neighbors to be nice.  So, we spent yesterday making and distributing cookies.  We were over at our 2nd delivery house chatting for a bit just inside their front door and Dylan asked our neighbor is they had any "Woody or Buzz" presumable to play with them.  They, of course, only have daughters so he told Blake they didn't have any toy story toys. Our neighbor quickly followed up that they had some other toys that he could play with.  He looks at Michelle and then and me and said, "Hmm, no. Go home."   Apparently, if you don't have toy story toys, Dylan would rather just be at home where he knows what he'll be able to play with.

Blake had a few humorous comments as well the last few days:

The boys are really into those I Spy / Where's Waldo types books.  They have a handful of items distrusted throughout each picture page and tell you what your supposed to look for.  The boys and I were reading through one of these books and we couldn't find a robin bird that they had hidden in the page.  We looked and looked and looked, but he was pretty elusive.  Blake calls out to Michelle that, "we just can't find the robin, mom."  He then looks back at the page and says, "Come on robin, don't be cheeky, where are you?". There is a British cartoon that the boys love called, Peppa Pig.  And yes he's picked up a few words and a little bit of an ancient on some words just watching that blasted show.  What american kid says, "Mom, do we need any petrol", or tells a picture of a robin not to be "cheeky"?  That's just plan daft.  :)

Michelle and I were talking about the BBC Sherlock series and I said in front of the kids.  "Yeah, so they couldn't use the pilot as it was so they had to re-shoot the pilot."
Blake said, "Oh no, Who had to re-shoot the pilot? What did the pilot do?"
That was a fun one to explain.

That's all we have for now.  Thanks for reading.  Cheers.

Who wants to go down the slide?

This morning we woke up to some snow. Nothing compared to the East coast, but it is fun to get a little snow...with no ice.  I checked how cold it was outside. It was 17 degrees, but with the wind chill...one report said -2 degrees and another (probably more accurate) said 6 degrees. Either way, it was cold.

So later in the day, we bundled up to go check things out.

They were examining the snowflakes very carefully.

Aaron worked from home for some of the day, so we decided to get some snowballs, knock on his office window from outside, and then....

Throw them at the window. (If you look closely, you can see Aaron in the window)

We then went to the front of the house and saw this moving truck at the end of our street. What a great day to move.

I asked Blake if he wanted to make a snow angel. He said that it would make his bum wet and he didn't want that to happen. We then went inside and had some hot chocolate.

Home Depot

This past Saturday, we took our monthly trip to Home Depot for the next project. Blake had already done this project a couple years ago with Grandpa, but he was willing to do it again because you can paint them different colors and it is a totally different car. The orange one is his older car which is why the stickers are pretty much dead on that one.

So proud of their projects!
